Vegan on the Cheap Tester Photos... and a Question

Here’s the final installment of my favorite tester photos for Vegan on the Cheap. These lovely pics were taken by Tami at Vegan Appetite. That's Quick LoMein in the top photo.

This is Asian Noodle Soup:

Here’s a photo of Pasta Slaw:

This one’s Nacho Taco Salad:

Here’s Minestrone Soup with Tiny “Meatballs”:

And the last one is Seitan Goulash:

To see more great VOTC photos taken by Tami, visit her blog, Vegan Appetite. You’ll want to go to her blog for another reason too: she’s currently doing a great giveaway of Vegan on the Cheap. For your chance to win, just leave a comment on her post with your favorite money-saving tip. And while you’re there, read the other tips that are posted — lots of great ideas!!

Now to my question. I’d like to share another recipe from Vegan on the Cheap and I can’t decide which one. So I’ll leave it to you to tell me.

What kind of recipe would you like to see posted next? A soup or salad? Maybe a skillet dish, sandwich, or pasta recipe? Something for the slow cooker or oven? A dessert?

Be as general or specific as you like — for example, you can ask for the recipe for one of the tester photos I’ve been posting these last few weeks. Whichever recipe (or type of recipe) gets the most votes will appear in a post by the end of next week.

P.S. If you already have the book, you can "play" too -- list your favorite recipe so far or pick one that you think others would enjoy.

I'd love the recipe for the Asian Noodle Soup pictured! Thank you. :)

I'd love the recipe for the curried tofu wraps. I read about them on the Two Vegan Boys blog: http://twoveganboys.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/weekend-update-23/

They look and sound fantastic!

Thanks.

I just bought this book yesterday! And I'm so excited about it.....I've already "bookmarked" a billion recipes to try :) And I'll be blogging about them too! Thank you!!

I'd love that goulash recipe!

If there is a new basic recipe for seitan, that would be nice to see and try out.

I decided to go vegan about two weeks ago. I love Vegan on the Cheap and I've already tried three recipes. Looks like I'm another blogger blogging about it, too:)

The QUICK LOMEIN looks delicious. I'm an asian noodle craver.

I second the Quick LoMein!

I third the Quick LoMein, would love to see that recipe.

I'm excited to have found this blog. I bought vegan Fire and Spice yesterday, after wanting to buy it for the past half a year (long story, but I've been broke). I made Pasta Puttanesca and the Bean and Rice Salad with Cumin Vinagrette. YUM!!!!!!! So glad I got that book!

I vote for something sweet

We live in the North, and it is still so cold here... it actually snowed this morning! I would love to see a soup recipe that could warm us up but that doesn't feel like winter.

I'd be grateful for the goulash recipe!

I love pesto, but haven't found a recipe that makes it without cheese while still tasting pesto-y...do you have a vegan pesto recipe?

I'd love to have a summer salad recipe!

Hi Robin,

I just want to say how wonderful your cookbooks are, and thank you for opening up a new world of amazing cookery to me!

I have three of your cookbooks: 1000 Vegan Recipes, Vegan Fire and Spice, and have just received Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker. They are all full of delicious and fantastically creative dishes, and I think 1000 Vegan Recipes was a big part of what inspired me to go Vegan. :)

I have 4 of your cookbooks and enjoy them. Just got Vegan on the Cheap but was wondering how important the oil is in most of the recipes? Can they be done with leaving it out?

Hi Nancy, You can use as much or as little oil in the recipes as you like. You can simply use less oil, use a cooking spray, or saute in water or broth. If there are particular recipes you have questions about, feel free to e-mail me.

Thanks to everyone for their great comments and for helping to choose the next recipe to be posted from Vegan on the Cheap. I'll count the picks at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday) so there's still time to get your vote in!

Thanks Robin for the fast response! The recipes look amazing! Just got the book yesterday and haven't gone shopping yet so I am picking out things I want to try!

Hi Robin, last night I made the sweet lentil chili from your slow cooker book, but I only had green lentils, not brown. Do you think this is why the lentils were not as soft as expected? I don't know much about the different types of lentils...

Hi Kate,

Yes, the different varieties of lentils all have different cooking times. The reddish orange lentils cook most quickly (and can be very soft when cooked) and the green and black varieties take longest to cook (and are the firmest ones when cooked). The brown lentils are right in the middle and when cooked can range from soft to firm, depending on how long you cook them.

When substituting green lentils for brown lentils, plan on the cooking time taking a bit longer. You may also need to add a bit more liquid to compensate.

Thank you so much, great "meatboals" :)
can you please recommend a pancake recipe ?

Lots of good pancake recipes in 1,000 Vegan Recipes.
