Halloween Pizza

In my continuing obsession with Halloween themed food, today's post features pizza!  The top photo shows a Jack o' Lantern pizza.  It may not be the prettiest Jack o' Lantern, but he sure was tasty.  I blended the pizza sauce and spices with some vegan cream cheese to lighten the color from red to orange. I then "brushed" some red pizza sauce on each side of the face (hard to see in the photo) to add some depth.  The facial features are made out of kalamata olives and the pumpkin stem is a piece of artichoke heart.  I put this together quickly with on-hand ingredients, but if I were to to it for guests, I might use slices of eggplant (peel side up) for some or all of the features to be larger and more dramatic.

This next pizza is my attempt at making a spider and his web.  Again, it's not the most artistic pizza in the world, but you get the idea. (Kalamata spiders are my favorite!)
And if yesterday's baked pumpkin oatmeal wasn't enough pumpkin for you, try this Moroccan-Spiced Pumpkin Hummus from Quick-Fix Vegan -- the recipe is posted on GoDairyFree.org.

Stay tuned for more Halloween treats -- no tricks -- during the rest of this week.  And don't forget to enter to win a copy of Quick-Fix Vegan - (contest closes Sunday night).

What did you use for the spider web? My toddler son is WILD about pizza and pizza is fast and easy and I love to serve it oh Halloween after trick or treating.

I love the look of your pumpkin pizza but I don't think I could eat the other one, I'm terrified of spiders & looking at it gave me the creeps - very realistic!

Love the spider, but does it only have six legs? I'm going to try this for our Halloween party.

punkinseeds, the spider web is made of shreds of vegan cheese, but I suppose you could cut thin strips of anything light-colored, like artichoke hearts or mushrooms.

vegan.in.brighton, I guess you'd have to eat the spider part first, then, eh?

Linda, I couldn't remember how many legs a spider has, and that's all I had time for anyway!

I'm going to make these this weekend. Thanks for the ideas! I also really love your baked oatmeal. I'm going to try that one out this weekend, too, if I have time! I'll let ya know. :)

That is some delicious and scary looking pizza!

Sounds like you have a fun and tasty weekend planned, Jenny! Please do let me know how they turned out!

Amanda, yes -- scary-good!

Thanks for the reply! I just wanted to know if it was a vegan cheese, or a sauce piped carefully on. You could also use a mushroom as the body of the spider if you want a big scary looking one.

Punkinseeds, a piped-on sauce would be good too, as long as it wouldn't run. I agree that a mushroom cap would make a good spider body -- especially if it was sauteed first in some soy sauce to make it nice and dark!
