"Make My Monday" Winner and a NEW Giveaway!

Is it Monday again already?  Wow.  I've been out of town for a few days, hence my lack of MoFo posts -- but I'll make up for them, I promise. For now, though, let's get down to business. It's time to announce the "Make My Monday" Giveaway winner from last week's contest.  The prize:  a copy of Party Vegan.  The winner (chosen by Random.org) is:  Bagheera Yoga -- whose favorite holiday food is sweet potatoes.  Congrats!!!  Send me your e-mail and I'll get a copy of Party Vegan in the mail to you. 10/13 UPDATE: No response from original winner, so new winner was chosen by Random.org:  #17 - Toni D.

Thanks to all who entered -- it was so fun to read what everyone likes to eat on holidays!  There will be a giveaway here each Monday during Mofo, so keep on entering -- you just may win!

This week's new "Make My Monday" Giveaway is for a copy of my cookbook Vegan Fire and Spice, filled with recipes from around the world that you can make as spicy as you like.  One of my personal favorites from this book is this Red Hot Chile Tofu:

Even if you already have a copy of Vegan Fire and Spice, you can enter anyway -- if you win, you can give it as a gift or use it for your own giveaway. One lucky winner will be selected at random. To enter, just answer this question in the comment section of this post:  "What is your favorite hot and spicy ingredient?"

If you want to earn additional entries, you can do any or all of the following, and leave me a comment for each one that you do:

1. Follow me on Twitter: @GlobalVegan
2. Subscribe to my blog
3. Link to this giveaway on Twitter
4. Link to this giveaway on Facebook
5. Link to this giveaway on your blog

The contest closes Sunday Oct 16 at midnight, and the winner will be announced in next Monday’s post, which will also include a new “Make My Monday” Giveaway!  So, enter now:  "What’s YOUR favorite hot and spicy ingredient?”

I made a really good habanero pepper sauce that I love.

My favorite spicy ingredient is hands down...siracha hot sauce!

Hello!

Having been afraid of hot-spicy for a long time, my love for Thai and Indian food has helped me learn to enjoy (and perhaps get a little desensitized to) spicier foods.

Of the spicy ingredients I've worked with, I'd have to say chipotle peppers are my favorite - I'm a sucker for anything smoked.

It might not be as much fun as some of the other items listed here, but I love crushed red pepper flakes. They're an easy way to spice up any dish.

I have so many! My top two would be chili pepper flakes and Siracha sauce! Mmmm!

I am a subscriber to your blog! :-)

my fave hot & spicy ingredient is Sriracha sauce! I love it on everything!

This is boring, but I like red pepper flakes. Sriracha is okay, but I don't like the slight vinegar undertones. :(

sriracha ! (everyone's right?)

I like chipotle in adobo. I already have the cookbook but I have some spice-loving children who need a copy!

Currently my favorite is ginger...fresh, dried, crystallized, juiced. Works in so many cuisines, from sweetly zingy to super spice-a-lisciousness! Thanks!

Indian red chili powder.
My friends: it's not so bad
*wait 4 seconds*

Ooh, red curry and lots of it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. Mine has every single page porcupined. It's pretty funny. Of course, I always TRIPLE the spices, so my answer should probably just be spice. LOL

Jalapeños! I love just about any kind of pepper, though. :)

Thanks for the giveaway!

Thanks for the giveaway!

(sorry, I meant to put my name.)

Siracha hot sauce is awfully good and we love it, but good old Texas Pete is sooo good!

ginger

Jalapenos - because I have so many pleasant memories associated with foods that include them. Also, black pepper. Small amounts make savoury dishes taste better and large amounts make them seem hot.

Chili Garlic Sauce! I love that stuff.

sriracha or frank's - depends on what i'm eating :)

i follow you on twitter!

i tweeted the contest

facebook linked :)

It's definitely not the hottest hot sauce, but I love the flavor of Texas Pete

sriracha!

i like chipotle. :-) the smokiness makes me happy.

Crushed red pepper flakes! You can use them in anything (and I do!!!). You can really build the heat without changing the flavor of the food.

Dried chilies. I put them in everything.

My father-in-law's homemade sauce from Bhut Jalokia. Even though it's one of the hottest peppers on the planet, when cooked down, it's diffused into an amazing tasting -- but still rather spicy -- sauce. Great on most anything.

My favorite hot condiment is Garlic Chili Sauce. It adds the right spicy bite to dishes from every Asian cuisine, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese,Indian,Korean but also plays well with other cuisines such as Cajun and Belgian "Samaurai" sauce.

I can't pick out just one ingredient, but I love me a good spicy peanut sauce! YUMMMMMMM

My favorite spicy food is red pepper flakes. I like to put them on pizzas. But I also like all sorts of hot sauce, chipotle peppers and so on. I love spicy food!

Roasted Hatch green chiles!

It's difficult to choose one or to determine what's hot as opposed to spicy. My mother has an eastern (US) palate and to her, things like raw garlic or ginger strike her as hot and spicy. I go through flavor moods and I prefer certain spices on certain dishes, like sriracha in my tofu scramble, or red pepper flakes in my Fra Diablo sauce. Smoky hot moods lean toward chipotle and hot paprika (the latter on "meatloaf" type dishes, especially). But over all, I love how thinly sliced raw garlic can give my taste buds a run for the money and a yen for the water glass.

I love, love, love homegrown chiles. Especially the milder ones like jalapenos and poblanos.
